What they did and why it matters

Glass led Walmart through the years when it turned distribution and data into its main advantage, setting expectations suppliers still have to meet. He oversaw growth of the distribution center network, wider use of cross-docking, and investment in information systems, including the Retail Link data platform launched in 1991 that gave suppliers point-of-sale data. Walmart's on-time-in-full targets, routing guides, and EDI requirements for vendors reflect the operational discipline built under him.
