Fulfillment Lexicon

About Fulfillment Lexicon

Fulfillment Lexicon is an independent, vendor-neutral dictionary of logistics terms for the people who run operations at US ecommerce brands: DTC founders, ops managers, supply chain planners, and marketplace sellers.

How entries are written

Each entry opens with a single-sentence definition that can be quoted on its own. It then explains why the term matters for an ecommerce brand, gives a formula and worked example where the term is calculable, answers common questions, and links to related terms.

Sample numbers in examples are illustrative and labeled as examples. They are not benchmarks for your business.

Sources and accuracy

We rely on primary sources where they exist: carrier service guides, US Customs and Border Protection rules and the Federal Register, the National Motor Freight Traffic Association, GS1, and the International Chamber of Commerce. Topics that change often, such as tariffs, de minimis rules, carrier dimensional weight divisors, and freight classification, are reviewed on a fixed schedule and whenever the rules change.

Review

Entries are written by the Fulfillment Lexicon Editorial Team. The site was last reviewed in full on October 16, 2026.

Independence

No company pays to be included or described. Carriers, marketplaces, and government programs are named only to explain how they work.

Using and citing definitions

You may quote any definition with a link to its page. Each entry has a ready-made citation. A machine-readable summary of the site is available at /llms.txt, and the full text of every entry at /llms-full.txt.
