What they did and why it matters

Chang built Evergreen into the world's largest container line by the mid-1980s, and his carrier still moves a large share of Asia to US trade. Evergreen's eastbound and westbound round-the-world services linked Asia, North America, and Europe in continuous loops, giving shippers more frequent and predictable sailings. The company also founded EVA Air. Brands importing from Asia may find their containers on Evergreen ships, and the Ever Given grounding in the Suez Canal in 2021 showed how much global supply chains depend on carriers like the one he built.
