Oliver Wight

Oliver Wight was an American consultant who popularized material requirements planning, helped advance manufacturing resource planning (MRP II), and created the Class A performance checklist.

What they did and why it matters

Wight helped turn MRP from a calculation into a management process, and his ideas lead directly to today's sales and operations planning. With George Plossl he wrote a 1967 production and inventory control textbook, and through his consulting firm he taught companies to run one integrated plan for sales, production, and finance. His ABCD Checklist set Class A standards for planning accuracy. Brands that hold monthly S&OP meetings to align demand forecasts, inventory buys, and fulfillment capacity are using a process Wight promoted.
