Full Container Load
Full Container Load (FCL) is an ocean shipment that fills, or is booked as, an entire container for one shipper.
Why it matters for ecommerce brands
Cheaper per unit than LCL at higher volumes and less handling risk.
Common questions
- When does FCL become cheaper than LCL?
- For many lanes, FCL becomes cheaper than LCL somewhere around 13 to 15 cubic meters, roughly half a 20-foot container, but it depends on current rates. Compare the all-in FCL cost against LCL per cubic meter charges plus origin and destination fees.
