Adrian Dalsey
Adrian Dalsey was an American businessman who co-founded DHL in 1969 with Larry Hillblom and Robert Lynn, supplying the D in the company's name, and sold his share in 1980.
What they did and why it matters
Dalsey helped start the international express courier business, which now handles much of cross-border e-commerce. DHL's first service carried shipping papers by air so cargo could be cleared before ships arrived, and it grew into a global network for documents and parcels. Dalsey sold his stake in 1980, and Deutsche Post later took full ownership. Brands that ship internationally with duties prepaid, or that rely on express carriers to handle customs clearance, are using a service model DHL's founders pioneered.
