Freight Reclassification
Freight Reclassification is a correction an LTL carrier makes to a shipment's freight class or weight after inspecting or reweighing it, which reissues the bill at the corrected class and usually adds an inspection fee.
Why it matters for ecommerce brands
Reclasses and reweighs are a frequent source of surprise LTL charges. Recording measured dimensions, weights, and photos at pickup is the best evidence for disputing them.
Common questions
- How do I dispute an LTL reclassification or reweigh charge?
- Request the carrier's inspection certificate or weight and inspection report, then compare it to your own measurements, scale tickets, and photos taken at pickup. Submit a written dispute with that evidence promptly, as most carriers set time limits in their tariff.
