What they did and why it matters
Sheffi made supply chain resilience a mainstream management topic, which became urgent for brands during the disruptions of 2020 to 2022. His research covers transportation, network optimization, and how companies prepare for and recover from disruptions such as natural disasters, port closures, and supplier failures. He argues that building flexibility, such as alternate suppliers, standardized parts, and distributed inventory, often protects a business better than simply holding extra stock. Brands that split inventory across fulfillment centers or qualify a second factory are applying the resilience thinking he popularized.
