Tobi Lütke
Tobi Lütke is a German-born Canadian programmer who co-founded Shopify, which grew out of his 2004 online snowboard store Snowdevil and launched as a platform in 2006.
What they did and why it matters
Lütke helped make it easy for any brand to sell online, which created much of the independent e-commerce volume that 3PLs now serve. Frustrated with existing store software while running Snowdevil, he wrote his own and turned it into Shopify, a hosted platform that lets merchants open a store without building one. Its app ecosystem and APIs connect stores to warehouse management systems, shipping software, and 3PLs. For many direct-to-consumer brands, the Shopify order feed is the starting point of fulfillment, so integration quality with it directly affects order accuracy and speed.
