Ryan Petersen is an American entrepreneur who founded Flexport in 2013, a digital freight forwarder and customs broker serving importers, after co-founding the trade data company ImportGenius.

Petersen helped bring software-style visibility to international freight, which changed what importers expect from a forwarder. Flexport combined traditional forwarding and customs brokerage with an online platform showing shipments, documents, and costs in one place, at a time when many importers relied on email and spreadsheets. During the 2021 port congestion crisis he became a prominent voice on supply chain bottlenecks. Brands that import inventory now expect real-time tracking of containers, landed cost estimates, and digital document handling from their logistics partners, partly because of Flexport.
