What they did and why it matters

Jomini is the most common source for the word logistics, which the fulfillment industry now uses for everything from warehousing to delivery. In his Summary of the Art of War he treated logistics as the practical art of moving and supplying armies, derived from the duties of the French officer who arranged quarters and marches. The English translation carried the term into Anglo-American military writing, and business later adopted it for physical distribution. The modern sense of logistics as planning the flow of goods, people, and information grew from that military usage.
