Shipping Label
A shipping label is a printed label carrying the carrier barcode, tracking number, service level, and addresses that a carrier scans to accept, route, and deliver a package.
Why it matters for ecommerce brands
Labels are usually printed on 4x6 inch thermal stock from shipping software or a WMS. Postage is often charged when the label is created, so unused labels must be voided to get a refund.
Common questions
- Do I get charged for shipping labels I don't use?
- Usually yes, until you void them. Most carriers and shipping platforms charge postage when the label is created and refund it only after the label is voided within the allowed window.
