Address Validation
Address Validation is the process of checking and standardizing a shipping address against postal and carrier data before a label is printed, flagging addresses that are incomplete, misspelled, or undeliverable.
Why it matters for ecommerce brands
Bad addresses cause returns to sender, reshipments, and carrier address correction fees billed after the fact. Validating at checkout is cheaper than fixing the address after the package is in transit.
Common questions
- What is a carrier address correction fee?
- It is a charge UPS and FedEx apply when they have to fix an incorrect or incomplete address to deliver a package. It is billed per package after shipment, so validating addresses before label creation avoids it.
