Pick and Pack
Pick and Pack is the warehouse process of retrieving ordered items from storage (pick), then placing them in shipping cartons with packing material and a label (pack).
Why it matters for ecommerce brands
Labor in pick and pack is the largest variable cost inside most fulfillment centers. Items per order and pick path length drive it.
Common questions
- How are pick and pack fees charged?
- 3PLs commonly charge a fee per order plus a fee for each additional item or pick, with packaging sometimes billed separately. Check how they define a pick, since some count per unit and others per SKU line.
