Jim Casey
Jim Casey was an American businessman who co-founded the American Messenger Company in Seattle in 1907, the business that became United Parcel Service (UPS).
What they did and why it matters
Casey built the parcel delivery model that most US e-commerce orders still ride on. Starting as a teenage messenger service with $100 in borrowed money, the company shifted to delivering packages for department stores, consolidated deliveries to cut cost, took the UPS name in 1919, and later extended common carrier service across the country. UPS reached all 48 contiguous states in 1975. Brands negotiating parcel rates, dimensional weight, residential surcharges, and pickup schedules today are dealing with the network Casey started and ran for decades.
