Wardrobing

Wardrobing is a form of return abuse in which a customer buys an item, uses it briefly, such as wearing clothing to an event, and then returns it as unworn for a full refund.

Topic: Returns Entry RTN-291

Why it matters for ecommerce brands

Wardrobing returns often cannot be sold as new, which turns a refund into a loss. Brands counter it with tamper-evident tags, inspection, and return limits for repeat abusers.

Common questions

How do brands stop wardrobing?
Common methods are large tamper-evident tags that must stay attached for a return, shorter windows on occasion wear, and inspection before refunding. Return history flags help identify repeat offenders.
