Sortation System

Sortation System is automated equipment that identifies items or parcels, usually by barcode scan, and diverts each one to the correct destination, such as an order, a packing station, or a carrier lane.

Topic: Systems & Automation Entry SYS-261

Why it matters for ecommerce brands

Sortation lets high-volume warehouses batch pick and then separate orders, or sort packed parcels by carrier and service quickly. It is a large fixed investment, so it fits sites with steady high volume.

Common questions

Do I need a sortation system in my warehouse?
Usually only at high and steady volume, where manually sorting picks or parcels becomes a bottleneck. Smaller operations often get similar benefits from put walls or carrier-specific staging areas.
