Section 301 Tariffs

Section 301 tariffs are additional US duties imposed under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974 in response to a trading partner's unfair practices, most widely on many goods of Chinese origin since 2018.

Why it matters for ecommerce brands

Section 301 duties stack on top of normal HTS duty rates and apply by origin, so they can greatly raise landed cost for Chinese-made products. Rates, covered lists, and exclusions have changed repeatedly; check current USTR and CBP guidance.

Common questions

How do I know if Section 301 tariffs apply to my product?
Check whether your product's HTS code is on a Section 301 list and whether it is of a covered origin, such as China. Your customs broker can confirm the Chapter 99 number that applies and whether any exclusion is in effect.
