Henry Gantt
Henry Gantt was an American mechanical engineer and management consultant, an associate of Frederick Winslow Taylor, who created the Gantt chart and the task and bonus wage system.
What they did and why it matters
Gantt gave managers a simple visual way to compare planned work with actual progress, and his chart is still how most warehouse launches and 3PL onboarding projects are planned. Working in the scientific management movement, he designed bar charts that let supervisors see at a glance whether production was ahead of or behind schedule. He also created a task and bonus pay system that rewarded workers, and their foremen, for meeting standards. Fulfillment teams use Gantt charts for go-live plans, peak season readiness, and automation installs, and incentive pay tied to labor standards follows his bonus idea.
