On-Hand Inventory
On-hand inventory is the total quantity of a SKU physically present in a warehouse or store, including units allocated to orders, on quality hold, or damaged.
Why it matters for ecommerce brands
On-hand drives storage cost and inventory valuation, but it overstates what you can sell. Track on-hand and available as separate numbers.
Common questions
- Why does my 3PL's on-hand count differ from my store's available quantity?
- On-hand includes units allocated to unshipped orders, on hold, or damaged, while the storefront usually shows only sellable units. Timing gaps in inventory syncs and unreceived inbound shipments also cause differences.
