Inventory Reconciliation

Inventory reconciliation is the process of comparing inventory quantities across systems such as the WMS, ecommerce platform, marketplaces, and accounting ledger, and against physical counts, then investigating and correcting variances.

Why it matters for ecommerce brands

Brands using a 3PL often find units missing between what was shipped from the factory, what was received, and what is sellable. Regular reconciliation catches lost inbound units, receiving errors, and sync failures before they become write-offs.

Common questions

How often should an ecommerce brand reconcile inventory with its 3PL?
Many brands reconcile monthly to match the accounting close, with weekly checks on fast-moving or high-value SKUs. Every inbound shipment should also be reconciled against its purchase order and packing list when received.
