Harmonized System Code

Harmonized System Code (HS Code) is a six-digit product classification code from the World Customs Organization's international Harmonized System, used as the base for national tariff schedules worldwide.

Topic: Import & Customs Entry IMP-131

Why it matters for ecommerce brands

The first six digits of a US HTS code are the HS code, so they match across most countries. When shipping internationally, use the HS code on customs forms and let the destination country's longer code set the duty.

Common questions

What is the difference between an HS code and an HTS code?
An HS code is the six-digit international base classification. The US HTS code adds four more digits, eight for the tariff line and two statistical, to set US duty rates.
